Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not replace emissions parts downstream of the sensor before proving the heater circuit and wiring are healthy.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Inspect the downstream sensor harness for melting, short-to-ground, road debris damage, and connector terminal problems.
- Check heater resistance and commanded operation while watching for a loaded-circuit voltage drop.
- Look for shared heater supply faults if other oxygen-sensor heater codes are present.
