Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not replace the sensor without checking heater and signal circuits; a sensor that never warms or has an open signal may look inactive.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Check sensor signal activity, heater operation, connector fit, wiring continuity, and ground integrity.
- Inspect for exhaust leaks, sensor contamination, and engine conditions that prevent normal closed-loop activity.
- Review freeze-frame data to confirm the engine was warm enough and operating in a valid monitor condition.
