Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not replace parts from the code label alone. A DTC identifies the circuit, monitor, or system that failed a test; diagnosis still needs live data, freeze-frame data, wiring checks, and vehicle-specific service information.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Review freeze-frame data so the code is diagnosed under the same load, RPM, and temperature conditions.
- Compare fuel trims, airflow data, temperature data, and oxygen or air-fuel sensor activity before replacing parts.
- Inspect intake leaks, exhaust leaks, wiring, connectors, fuel delivery, and recent service work.
