Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not diagnose only after the engine is warm; startup misfires often disappear once heat expansion or enrichment changes the conditions.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Review freeze-frame temperature, startup time, fuel trims, and cylinder-specific misfire counters if available.
- Check ignition parts, injector leakdown, fuel pressure retention, compression, coolant intrusion, and vacuum leaks that show up cold.
