Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not replace the sensor without checking signal integrity and mechanical trigger condition; a damaged reluctor or wiring fault can set the same code.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Check crank-sensor connector, power or reference feed, ground, signal circuit, and harness routing near heat or moving parts.
- Look for RPM signal during cranking and compare crank/cam synchronization data if available.
- Inspect sensor mounting, tone wheel or reluctor damage, and recent engine or transmission work.
