Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not replace the sensor before checking tone-wheel damage, module data differences, and wiring integrity.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Compare vehicle speed data across the engine, transmission, ABS, and instrument modules if available.
- Inspect speed sensor wiring, tone wheel or reluctor condition, connector fit, tire size changes, and recent drivetrain work.
- Review transmission shifting, ABS, cruise control, and speedometer symptoms that can share the same signal.
