Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not clear adaptive memory repeatedly without fixing the air or throttle cause; the high idle usually returns.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Check for vacuum leaks, stuck throttle, dirty throttle body, PCV faults, intake duct leaks, and incorrect learned idle values.
- Compare commanded idle, actual RPM, throttle angle, airflow, and fuel trims at warm idle.
- Perform the correct idle relearn only after mechanical and air-leak causes are addressed.
