Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not replace parts from the code label alone. A DTC identifies the circuit, monitor, or system that failed a test; diagnosis still needs live data, freeze-frame data, wiring checks, and vehicle-specific service information.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Compare live RPM, throttle, airflow, vehicle-speed, and idle-control data against the actual operating condition.
- Inspect air leaks, throttle body condition, wiring, connectors, and learned idle values where applicable.
- Check for other codes that can force idle or speed-control symptoms.
