Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not diagnose the transmission from P0700 alone. The useful information is normally in the companion transmission-controller codes.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Scan the transmission control module or enhanced manufacturer data, not only generic powertrain codes.
- Check fluid level and condition where the vehicle design allows it, then review solenoid, sensor, wiring, and communication codes.
- Use freeze-frame and pending codes to separate an electrical fault from a hydraulic or mechanical transmission concern.
