Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not replace the TCM before testing power input under load; range faults often come from relay or wiring voltage drop.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Monitor TCM power input during key-on, cranking, running, and load changes to find drops or delayed relay output.
- Inspect battery terminals, fuses, relay contacts, grounds, connector pins, and wiring between the power relay and TCM.
- Review companion communication, system-voltage, and transmission limp-mode codes that may share the power issue.
