Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not treat P0011 as only a sensor code; oil control, actuator sticking, and mechanical timing can all create an over-advanced cam result.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Check engine oil level, viscosity, contamination, service history, and oil-control-valve screen condition where accessible.
- Compare commanded and actual cam angle at idle and during a controlled RPM change.
- Inspect the cam actuator solenoid, phaser operation, timing-chain or belt condition, and cam/crank correlation data.
