Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not jump straight to actuator replacement; confirm the circuit is not open, shorted, oil-contaminated, or affected by poor connector tension.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Inspect the exhaust cam actuator solenoid connector, wiring, power feed, and control circuit at bank 1.
- Check oil condition and oil level because actuator response can be affected by lubrication faults as well as circuit faults.
- Compare commanded exhaust cam movement with actual cam position and review related cam/crank correlation codes.
