Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not clean or replace the MAF sensor before checking for intake leaks, bad grounds, incorrect air-filter fitment, or wiring faults.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Compare MAF grams-per-second or calculated load against RPM, throttle angle, and manifold pressure if available.
- Inspect intake ducting after the sensor, air-filter sealing, wiring, connector tension, and contamination on the sensing element.
- Check fuel trims and freeze-frame data to see whether the fault appears at idle, cruise, or under load.
