Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not clear intermittent IAT faults without checking connector and harness movement; the code often returns after vibration or heat.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Watch IAT data while moving the harness, tapping the connector, and repeating the freeze-frame conditions.
- Inspect connector tension, shared MAF/IAT wiring, sensor ground, and airbox-area harness routing.
- Look for temperature jumps that do not match actual airflow or underhood conditions.
