Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not chase mixture problems before confirming the temperature input is believable; a false IAT value can affect fueling and timing strategy.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Compare intake-air temperature to ambient temperature after the vehicle has sat long enough to cool down.
- Inspect the IAT connector, shared MAF/IAT wiring, sensor ground, and harness damage near the airbox.
- Watch live IAT data while moving the harness to expose intermittent opens or connection faults.
