Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not replace the sensor before checking wiring and exhaust leaks; a circuit malfunction can be caused outside the sensor body.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Compare bank 2 upstream sensor activity with fuel trims, engine temperature, and bank 1 behavior if available.
- Inspect bank 2 sensor wiring, connector pins, exhaust leaks ahead of the sensor, and contamination from oil or coolant.
- Check related heater, fuel-trim, misfire, or airflow codes that can affect oxygen-sensor interpretation.
