Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not chase mixture or timing symptoms until the temperature input is believable; false IAT data can alter fueling and spark.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Compare intake-air temperature with ambient temperature and coolant temperature after a cold soak.
- Inspect IAT sensor wiring, connector condition, shared MAF/IAT circuits, sensor ground, and harness damage near the airbox.
- Watch live temperature data for dropouts, jumps, or stuck readings while moving the harness.
