Diagnostic boundary
A diagnostic trouble code reports that a monitored test failed. It does not prove one specific part is bad, and manufacturer logic can add vehicle-specific conditions.
Do not assume the named coil is the only possible fault; connector damage and PCM driver problems can create the same circuit code.
Useful checks before replacing parts
- Inspect coil D connector, wiring, power supply, driver-control circuit, and ground path where applicable.
- Check misfire counters, coil command, and whether the fault follows the coil if a swap test is appropriate.
- Look for heat damage, water intrusion, loose terminals, and secondary ignition tracking around the coil and plug.
